A Dings Magnetic Head Pulley is installed at the discharge end of a belt conveyor. When material carried on the belt comes within range of the magnetic field, pieces of tramp iron or magnetic particles in the material are attracted to the belt. Ferrous material is held tight to the belt because of the magnetic field, until carried to the underside of the pulley where the material is split from non-magnetic material, which follows a normal trajectory.
